Altair Simulacrum
Someone mentioned the WEM Copicat tape delay the other day. Here the Monotron is running thru a Copicat. Plus a bit of cheep karaoke echo.
As any oscillator going thru old delays sounds like the Barrons’ soundtrack on Forbidden Planet, thus the name.
Awesome.
Would it be a surprise to say that I massively ♥ Louis & Bebe Barron’s work on Forbidden Planet and the elegiac tone poems of their bespoke circuits, recorded during intentional component death?

Yo. Delia. Gurl. Reincarnate thyself so that I may wife you.
I’m not much of one for unrequitable crushes but there’s not much I wouldn’t do just to sit quietly beside Delia whilst she recorded sounds, spliced tape loops and narrated her thoughts.
*sigh*

Chamberlin Rhythmate | Vintage Synth Explorer
The Chamberlin Rhythmate has the distinction of being the first drum machine ever produced. Only around ten were made by Harry Chamberlin from his Upland, California garage back in 1949. Some have said that the Wurlitzer Sideman was the first drum machine, but Chamberlin’s invention preceded it by ten years.
All drum machines should contain 12 inch speakers. Also, tubes and tape loops (the Rhythmate’s innovative design inspired the invention of the classic Mellotron).
Here’s a Vimeo video showing off the box’s sound and beat selection mechanism which manually shifts the head across the 16 track tape loop:

Had I worked at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, I would have got my tie chewed and recorded over up by 10AM every day. Probably intentionally after the first time.
And hands up if you estimated their delay time by dividing the loop’s approximate length (doubled) by 15IPS.
